Abstract There is a growing realisation that the development of individuals and of communities depends on education and on the quality of teaching and learning. The needs of individuals and the needs of society in general, convene in the need to develop lifelong autonomous learners.
FUNecole® curriculum values learning as an empowering activity having the student in the centre of learning communities. These communities enable students to grow and learn independently with own-determination, own-direction and own-respect.
The FUNecole® Original Design Concept™ integrates ICT skill building and character development in education. Throughout the 6 Year Journey of Knowledge™ students are involved in active learning situations that extend to higher order thinking processes: from knowledge acquisition, comprehension, application to knowledge analysis, synthesis, evaluation and sharing. The FUNecole® curriculum integrates traditional classroom based approaches, game playing, on-line learning communities and multi media communication means to achieve the desired results.
The Philosophy Information Communication Technology changes what students need to learn as well as how they learn it. The rapid pace of technological change imposes pressures on the school curriculum to integrate new methods of learning and implement new relationships that facilitate instruction. Today’s generations are readily able and keen to use technology with enthusiasm. Their approach to life is different: they know how to pay attention to multiple sources, evolve and change rapidly, use technology as a tool to communicate, learn and enlarge their lives. This is contrast to the extra effort that previous generations had to make in the process of using ICT or catching up with change.
We, the educators must meet the challenge of designing new comprehensive approaches to teaching and learning that successfully integrate technology into the curriculum. Students should be ready for a technology rich-world. We, as educators must also consider that our students need to cultivate and nourish qualities like compassion, self discipline, moral judgment, empathy, respect, sense of belonging and community support. Good quality educational practices need to capture honour and keep students interests.
The FUNecole® Original Design Concept™ The FUNecole® Original Design Concept™ is based upon the design of a curriculum that integrates character building lessons and ICT skills development in a unique multidisciplinary approach. The FUNecole® curriculum revolves around entrepreneurial education and provides lessons that focus on student’s own questions and concerns as they apply them in real-life context.
