Inspiring the Developemnt of Autonous Learners for Life IDEALife
Project Abstract
There is a growing realization that the development of individuals and communities depends on education and the quality of teaching and learning. The needs of individual learners and the desires of society in general, convene in the need of developing exceptional autonomous lifelong learners.

The young generation, under the pressure of peer groups, is an early adopter of the most advanced technology. In contrast, the educational system is a slow adopter of new ICT. Learning objectives and curricula still focus on very basic (in fact, primitive) computer skills, which are totally insufficient as a preparation for the creative society of tomorrow.

The IDEALife project is about ...
• Inspiring the development of new comprehensive approaches of context–based learning and inquiry-based techniques that infuse technology into the curriculum and across all disciplines.
• Enhancing the learning process by offering meaningful, real, rich and relevant learning experiences thus enabling learners to be ready for a technology-rich world.
• Providing active learning situations that facilitate the extension of thinking processes from knowledge acquisition, comprehension and application to knowledge analysis, synthesis, evaluation and sharing.
The IDEALife proposal is built upon existing work and on FUNecole® curriculum that dynamically integrates ICT skill building and character & social skills development. The curriculum is based on a spiral approach “coming back, but at higher levels” that enhances the methods by which teachers craft instruction where learners cultivate different aspects of intelligence, and enhance their thinking and learning processes.
The expected impact of this project is to: • Present a new curriculum that facilitates new forms of learning and cultivates different and wide ranging thinking skills.
• Activate from within learners the desire to learn, and motivate them to demonstrate high-quality performance.
• Present a step by step ICT integration that inspires Lifelong Learning, and leads to an advanced knowledge-based European Society.
